How does your artwork reflect your exploration of this question visually? I took a picture of my mother holding a candle in a dark room to get a strong contrast between the light and the dark. Cause I finished a black and white one before, so this time, I want to try the color one, so I edited this original photo into warm colors. And I've also blurred the details of the characters in order to focus on the character's temperament instead of highlighting her features. I used warm colors such as incarnadine, red, orange and yellow to show my mother's tenderness and love. And these colors are also made her stand out in the dark background of chiaroscuro. 3. Yiyang Hu Prof.Robson AP Art 1/20/2020 1. What is the question guiding your art making? How to draw chiaroscuro in just black and white?    2. How does your artwork reflect your exploration of this question visually?   I took a picture of my mother holding a candle in a dark room to get a strong contrast between the light and the dark. After that I edited this original photo in black and white in order to see the difference between each layer more clearly. First of all, I drew a rough outline of my mom’s face with a pencil. Then l divided the light and the darkness of  her face into three levels. The first is the brightest, the second is the medium and the third is the darkest. 3. How did practice, experimentation, and/or revision play a role in the making of this piece? Cause I only used black watercolor for the whole painting so I practice color toning on another piece of paper in order to make one color with different shades.

This picture was taken with my father in the park when I was five years old and panda is my favorite animal so it was important to me. For now this picture is a symbol of my precious childhood memory although I keep growing up but because of this picture my memory of childhood will not be blurred. So that l want to use my hands to paint to relive this childhood 2) .Talk about what was hard with this technique and what you liked. What you will change next time. For me this is a new technique the pen is hard to control and the Face shadow contrast is my main difficulty. Before l started drawing I tried and practiced several times on the paper. But I still like this technique cause the lines drawn by this technique are very fine and delicate.
